Dream With Us

The immediate advertisement that came to my mind when I saw this assignment was Nike's 'Dream With Us' campaign released during the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup tournament. This commercial starts off with a group of young soccer girls walking out of a locker room in line with the opening question "what's your dream?". As the advertisement continues, the line of soccer girls grows longer to include young women from various sports and further questions including "to win championships?", "to earn a scholarship?", "do you want to be a bigger athlete than Serena Williams?", "do you want to be the first girl to play for the Yankees?", and "can you be the generation that ends gender inequality?". The advertisement progresses to the young soccer girls running in line toward the soccer pitch to join the USA Women's National team as they walk onto the field. Mallory Pugh, a member of the national team, turns to face the young girls as the commentator states "perhaps the craziest dream of all is the one that starts a million more". The advertisement ends with the women's national team running onto the field with the lines "Dream with us. It's only crazy until you do it" across the screen.

Being a former soccer player myself, this advertisement has always given me chills. This advertisement always leaves me inspired, empowered, and feeling as if I am about to play in a soccer match myself. My brain is responsible for these emotions that I feel. One part of the brain that plays a major role is my Temporal lobe that allows me to hear and process the sound coming from the television. My Limbic System, specifically the hippocampus, plays another major role in the emotions that I feel when watching this advertisement. The hippocampus is the center for long-term memories that are associated with deep emotions. I believe that when I watch this advertisement, my hippocampus recalls memories from when I used to play soccer and brings them back to the forefront of my mind, causing me to feel as if I am about to play in a match and feel emotions such as excitement, nervousness, and empowerment.
